Roles for People Looking to Support the Niagara Land Trust

 

Members

  • Members must wholeheartedly support the objects of the Niagara Land Trust.
  • The number of years of the term of each member is specified on granting of the membership by the Board of Directors.
  • The number of Members can vary from 12 - 25 at one time.
  • Members elect new Directors annually.
  • Members meet at least once per year and are kept informed of the dealings of the Niagara Land Trust.
  • Members provide support for the Niagara Land Trust and keep it well connected to various supporting organizations and the community.

 

Volunteers

  • Volunteers must wholeheartedly support the objects of the Niagara Land Trust.
  • Volunteers are always welcome to participate within the NLT committees and events.
  • Volunteers can become NLT members.
  • What are your skills and talents? Can you help us?

 

Directors

  • Directors must be members of the Niagara Land Trust.
  • Directors are elected annually to three year terms by the Membership.
  • The number of Directors can vary from six - 12 at one time.
  • The Board approves all major decisions of the Niagara Land Trust.
  • The Board of Directors meets approximately monthly.

 

Executive

  • There are four executive positions: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer
  • Executives are elected annually to a one year term by the Board of Directors.
  • The Executives run the day to day business of the Niagara Land Trust.
  • Executive meetings are held as required, typically at least monthly.

 

Committees

  • Committee members are not necessarily members of the Niagara Land Trust, they can be volunteers and help to provide the Niagara Land Trust with needed expertise.
  • The six committees of the Niagara Land Trust are:
  • The Project Review Committee uses NLT criteria and reviews specific properties for acquisition or Conservation Agreement.
  • The Science and Stewardship Committee is in the process of establishing NLT guidelines for stewardship/monitoring plans and applying these to each property under responsibility of the NLT; in addition to, completing the baseline research for each property.
  • The Fundraising and Marketing Committee is creating the NLT brand (logo, stationary, brochures, marketing plan), updating the website, identifying potential funding sources and coordinating fundraising activities
  • The Strategic Planning Committee has just completed NLT's first Strategic Plan. This committee will periodically review the strategic plan and long & short term goals.
  • The Members and Nominations Committee ensures the NLT has the capacity to meet its objectives through a membership that is committed and representative of the communities the NLT serves; therefore, recruits and recommends new members to the Board. This committee reviews the requirements of the NLT constitution.
